Why Is It Called a Bogey in Golf?
The term 'bogey' in golf comes from a 19th-century British song about a mysterious figure called the Bogey Man. Golfers used to compete against this imaginary opponent, and scoring one over par became known as a bogey. The name stuck, even after 'par' became the official standard.
